 Cash Machines/ATMs

I am thinking of putting in an ATM machine in our lobby, we do a lot of weddings and golf tournaments (gambling & dice) and quite often get asked where the ATM is.

Has anyone had experience owning or having a company come in and install an ATM?

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.  -HST

On the down side of ATM's....

They require a dedicated telephone line and power.  For low volume ATM machines this alone can offset much of the profit made.

Check your liability insurance coverages.  An ATM machine will increase your premiums because of the increased risks.

I'm not saying that it isn't a good idea....just check these costs out before you committ.

Call me crazy but haven't you just answered your own question?  If people keep asking for something, shouldn't we be responding by providing it whether it be on the menu or additional service?

I don't sell ATM's, but I hear alot of feedback about them.  The owners I have spoken say, "it's better to own them instead of getting a rental.  The money they take out normally gets spent here.  The biggest problem we have is keeping it full of money".    Machines which are used often are a cash cow.

B-Man made some very good points.  Another to add to the expense side is another security cam pointed at the ATM.

If you tell me how many transactions you expect to have in a given month I can give you a profit/cost/roi analysis for an ATM in your business.   ATM's have dropped in price dramatically, so it is better to own one rather than rent one.  You determine the fee charged to the customer for using the ATM ($2.00-$3.50) and you keep 100% of the fee.   Most of our ATM owners load the ATM with their own money and that reduces costs.  Many other factors like insurance, maintenance also should be considered.  If you have any questions please contact me.

Good Luck
