 Operation Flavor

Hi friends,

I don't often ask for much (except a good parking spot from AdminDave), but I'm asking today.

My wife's 5th grade class will be adopting a forward deployed unit in either Afghanistan or Iraq.  What she and they would like to do would be to collect PC packages of condiments to send to the troops.  If you've ever been in the military, you know these items are like gold!

We are asking for case lots of:

  • mayo
  • mustard
  • ketchup
  • tartar sauce
  • horseradish cream
  • hot sauce
  • pickle relish
  • creamers (dried or liquid)
  • sugar
  • sugar substitutes

There's no such thing as too much of any one item.  I'll be hitting my local restaurants asking for donations as well.  Anything you can spare or can donate would be grately appreciated by our troops.  (My moment on the soapbox: Whether or not you support the actions in those countries by our govenment is irrevelant to whether our troops should be supported.)

When the items are shipped I will ensure all donators are both noted to the troops and thanked by the school.

All these items will be shipped from the school.  We will be footing the shipping costs to the unit(s).

I know it's kind of short fused, but we would appreciate if we could receive these items by the end of November so that we can get things turned around in time for the Christmas rush.

Please contact me and I'll provide you with a mailing address.

Thank you very much.

 Operation: Flavor

Hey folks,

We're going to slightly modify how this will work in order to make it easier for most.  First, we're going to try to purchase the product under the school's food service account with a separate invoice.  Second, we'll be setting up a system in which to take monetary donations either through check to an account under the school or program name or via PayPal to my eBay account.  Since I have known most of you many years, you also know I'm not in this to scam.  As I said, I'll be footing the postage bill overseas as my part of the operation.

And speaking of operation, Lori and I were tossing around names last night and came up with Operation: Flavor.  It is what it says it is: flavor.

For those in the food field who've never experienced "the thrill" of eating MRE's I can assure you they've come a long way since K-rats and C-rats.  However, that isn't to say they're the tastiest things on the planet.  This is why we've chosen to pick these products and send them to the troops.

There are a lot of service men and women overseas on our behalf.  This is an easy/simple way of us thanking them.

As I mentioned before, I'll ensure that the troops know who "sponsored" what.  In the event you have a branded PC product and would like to donate that, please do!  I'm going to be hitting some of the local QSRs for branded PC packages that I know will be well received.  Trust me when I say, I know they'll be well received.  Having spent a year or two (20, that is) in the military, most of it deployed or overseas, I know how a little thing like a package of hot sauce means.

Again friends, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Steve, Lori, her class and our military.

The details are still being hammered out, but a site has been created for this initiative, called "Operation Flavor".

Please continue to add your thoughts and ideas.

 Operation: Flavor

The bank account for Operation: Flavor has been set up.  The school has authorized us to use their food service account to buy product.

Donations can and will be accepted to PayPal under the email address of .  Or, if you need banking routing and accounting information, contact me directly and I'll provide that data.

FYI - TODAY ALONE $250.00 has been allocated from a few sources to this program.  Since I would feel awkward about listing sources, that information will remain confidential until the end of the solicatation.  At that point we'll publically acknowledge donators but not amounts!

The overall acceptance for this has been way beyond my expectations.

Thanks FRIENDS!

Lori woke me up this morning asking, "Who's ______?"  There's money in the Operation: Flavor PayPal account!"  Coooooool Beans!  Also, I got an email this morning from one of our friends, in short, "product enroute."

You folks rock!

I was talking to Howard yesterday and mentioned that I had contacted another former sailor (and part time foodie) in San Diego.  He is also a journalist.  We'll see how this rolls.

Again, the site is Operation: Flavor and the email address is

In the words of our "green flavored troops" on the front: Ooooh Rah!  (Did I spell that right, Keith?)
